Driving Instructor Training Courses

trainer1

We are currently recruiting new personnel to train as driving instructors by our own vigorous in-house training programme.

To be accepted for training the candidate will have to pass an interview. If successful the candidate will be asked back for a driving assessment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate people skills and have a keen interest in learning/teaching.

We are offering training in all parts of the Driving Standards Agency Approved Driving Instructor Training qualification. Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3 followed by our own compulsory additional training.

All of our training course are conducted by one of our in-house training team which consists of GRADE 6 instructors. Each trainer has more then 20 years experience of training Driving Instructors.

We have trained instructors from all over the country including Glasgow, Birmingham, Gloucester and London. For information about our residential Driving Instructor Training courses click here to contact us.

Part 1 explained.
The part 1 is basically a test of your knowledge in the following subject matter and is broken down into 4 bands. They are:
1- Road procedure
2- Traffic signs and signals, car control, pedestrians, mechanical knowledge.
3- Driving test, disabilities, law.
4- Publications, instructional techniques.

Following this part of the examination there is a short break of up to 3 minutes then the hazard perception section will begin.
You will be show a tutorial video first.

You will be shown a total of 14 video clips, each lasting about 1 minute.
We will be taking you through all of these elements during your training, our pass mark is exceptionally high and we see no reason with the correct training that you should be any different.

You will need to pass both elements of the examination at the same time.
The pass mark for the multiple choice questions is 85% (at least 20 correct questions in each of the 4 bands)

The hazard perception test pass mark is 57 out of 75.
We will be providing you with all your training materials.

Part 2 explained.
The practical driving ability test is in 2 parts. Eye sight test. Driving technique.
This examination will last approximately 60 minutes and you will be expected to demonstrate a high level of driving ability. Before driving however you will be asked a few question regarding the vehicle you are using based on a Show me/Tell me format.
You must demonstrate and satisfy the examiner on all of the following subjects:
* Expert handling of the controls
* Use of correct road procedure
* Anticipation of the actions of other road users and taking appropriate
action
* Sound judgement of distance, speed and timing
* Consideration and safety of other road users
* Driving in an environmentally friendly manner.

This is a brief explanation of the examination, all elements will be covered during your training. We will provide the vehicle for you to use during training and your examination.

Part 3 explained
* Explanation of the subject matter
* Questioning of the pupil in order to establish pupil level of knowledge

The objective of this element of the qualifying examinations is to make sure that you the instructor, can pass on your knowledge to the pupil in a clear and easy to understand manner and that it is done in a professional way.

The examination will last for approximately 60 minutes and is broken down into two 30 minute elements. The examiner will ‘role play’ a typical pupil (if there is such a thing as a typical pupil). The examiner will remain in role as far as possible for both elements.

The subject headings are
* Safety precautions on entering the car and explanation of the controls
*Moving off and making normal stops
* Reversing and reversing into limited opening to the right or left
*Turning the vehicle round in the road to face the opposite direction, using forward and reverse gears
* Parking close to the kerb, using forward and reverse gears
* How to make an emergency stop and practical instruction in the use of mirrors
* Approaching and turning corners
* Judgement of speed, making progress and general road positioning
* Dealing with road junctions
* Dealing with crossroads
* Dealing with pedestrian crossings and giving correct signals in a clear and unmistakable manner by indicator and by arm
* Overtaking, meeting and crossing the path of other road user, allowing adequate clearance

We will provide you with all training materials and the vehicle for training and examinations where required.
